Pingyao 06 - quiet street

I've already posted something with a similiar title (here). It was about a quiet street in Beijing's old part of the town. Here is now a quiet street in Pingyao's old part of the town, after the buses took the heavy crowd of noisy turists back to their 3 star hotels. Just silent streets are left, with those red lanterns bringing a red glow in the dark night.

J'ai déjà posté quelque chose avec un titre similaire (ici). Il s'agissait d'une rue calme de Pekin dans la partie ancienne de la ville. Voici maintenant une rue tranquille de la partie ancienne de Pingyao, après que les bus ait ramenés la foule dense de touristes bruyants dans leurs hotels 3 étoiles. Il ne reste que des rues silencieuses, éclairées d'une lueur rouge durant la nuit sombre.

One year ago I decided to move to blogspot to share my trips and experiences from abroad with whoever may be interested in it. Today, you're 518 followers and guess there are some other people regularly visiting, although you're not listed among the followers. Anyway, you're too many to let me know every one of you, although I wish I can.
I never imagined so many people could be interested in it.
Right now, snow should arrive on my roof and it should be my first snowy christmas ever. And to every single one of you, I wish a merry christmas.

Pingyao 05 - lanterns

All the city is covered by those grey roofs. All the main streets have such lanterns. Each shop has its own lanterns. I remind seeing a chinese man making a picture for every different lanterns, at night, using a very good material.

Toute la cité est couverte de ces toîts gris. Toute les rues principales ont de telles lanternes. Chaque magasin a ses propres lanternes. je me souviens d'avoir vu un chinois qui prenait en photo chaque lanterne différente, utilisant un très bon matériel.

As the title says, here's Pingyao's medieval city's north gate. I felt frustrated in this city. It's amazing but I didn't succeed at bringing this feeling in my pictures.

Voici la porte nord de la partie médiévale de Pingyao. Il y a de la frustration en ce qui me concerne, dans la mesure ou je n'ai pas réussi à transférer les sensations éprouvées dans cette ville sur mes photos.

Pingyao 01

The part of this city wich is inside the huge walls didn't change a lot along the last centuries. This is one of the places in China you can find on the World Heritage list. All the houses and buildlings are the original ones. You can't even enter the old cit by car. You'll have to walk or rent a bicycle to visit it and dive into another world.

Well, the above picture shows the hotel we booked within this ancient place. Even the beds were traditional chinese ones.

La partie de la ville située dans l'enceinte fortifiée n'a pas beaucoup changé au cours des derniers siècles. C'est l'un des endroits en Chine que vous trouverez sur la liste du Patrimoine Mondial de l'humanité. Toutes les maisons et constructions sont d 'origine. On ne peut même pas y entrer en voiture. Il faut pour cela marcher ou louer un vélo pour visiter et plonger dans un autre monde.

La photo ci-dessus est l'hotel que nous avons réservé au sein même de la zone médiévale. Mêmes les lits étaient de style traditionel chinois.

Datong city center

This is the current city center from Datong. Although there are 1.000.000 people living there, it still looks like the country side. Actually, a vey huge work is in progress to develop the city. The biggest I have ever seen, spread over 10 or 20 km².

Voici le centre ville actuel de Datong. Bien qu'il y ait 1.000.000 de personnes y vivant, ça ressemble à la campagne. En fait, un chantier gigantesque est en cours pour développer la ville, sur 10 ou 20 km².

Japanese sunset

This picture was shot in Nara, the evening before I take the plane to Kyushu. Also the evening before a typhoon strikes the south of Japan. Japanese people are used to events such as a typhoon or an earthquake. I remind, sooner this day, walking in a garden while the wind was already vey strong, a huge piece of wook broke a fell 2 cm behind my feet. I just thought "2 cm and I could have died". Japanese saw it made a large smile, pointed at the sky and said "aaahhh taifu taifu" and kept on walking like nothing special ever happened.
Cette photo a été prise à Nara, le soir avant que je prenne un avion pour Kyushu. Egalement le soir avant qu'un typhon ne frappe le Japon. les japonais sont habitués à des évènements tels qu'un typhon ou un tremblement de terre; je me souviens que, plus tôt ce jour là, marchant dans un jardin alors que le vent était déjà fort, une branche énorme est tombée à 2 cm derrière mes pieds. J'ai just pensé "2 cm et je serais mort". Des japonais ont vu ça, on fait un grand sourire et ont montré le ciel en faisant "ahhhh tafu taifu" et on continué de marcher comme si rien de particulier n'avait eu lieu.

I shot this from the taxi, when we were going to Datong city center after visiting the Yungang Grootoes. Chaotic!

J'ai filmé ça depuis le taxi qui nous emmenait au centre vile de Datong, après la visite des grottes de Yungang.

This is the last shot from this place wich began to be made by humans something like 1500 years ago. Nowadays it's getting more and more damaged by acid rains due to the pollution.

The next post will a video of the chaotic road we ha to use to go back to our hotel in Datong.

Voici la dernière photo de ce lieu que les humains ont commencé à établir il y a quelque chose comme 1500 années auparavant. De nos jours les pluies acides dues à la pollution l'endommagent.

There are several huge buddhas, there, but only this one stands outside, in the center of the area. The biggest and most interesting statues are in caves, and photo is forbidden.

Il y a plusieurs bouddhas énormes, là-bas, mais seul celui est dehors, au centre de la zone. Les plus gros et plus intéressants sont dans des cavernes, et la photo y est interdite.

There's a kind of window and we can see the face of one of those big buddha statues. I had already noticed this in Japan. For exemple, Nara's huge bouddha can see the outside every 31st december when the window is open in front of his face.

I don't know the reason for those holes or windows in front of the face.

Il y a comme une fenêtre et nous pouvons voir le visage de l'une des ces grosses statues de bouddha. J'avais remarqué cela au Japon. par exemple, le boudha gigantesque de Nara peut voir l'extérieur chaque 31 Décembre lorsque l'on ouvre la fenêtre en face de son visage.

Mais j'ignore la raison de ces ouvertures en face des visages.

Even the ceiling of some caves are carved with buddha related things. And all of this is more than a thousand year old.

Those small buddhas are in the same room as yesterday's big one. I don't know how many ones were carved, but it's impressive.

Here is the first view from the grottoes. Each hole holds a buddha statue. We may find thousands of small ones and some big ones in the larger holes.

Voici la première vue de ces grottes. Chaque cavité contient une statue de bouddha. On peut trouver des milliers de petites statues et quelques grosses dans les grottes les plus vastes.

On our way to the Yungang grottoes, we stopped at a restaurant lost in the middle of nowhere, where there's not even any electricity. The food was good and fat. Very fat.

Sur la route qui nous mène aux grottes Yungang, nous nous sommes arrêtés à un restaurant perdu au milieu de nulle part, où il n'y a même pas d'électricité. La nourriture était bonne et grasse. Très grasse.

This is the last shot about this temple / monastery built on a cliff. I'll start a new set of pictures next week. It'll be about the Yungang grottoes, listed as a world heritage. There are thousand of buddhas carved in the grottoes there, from very small ones to huge ones. Picture were not allowed for the 2 most amazing ones, but there are many things to show anyway.
Voici la dernière vue de ce temple / monastère construit sur une falaise. Je débuterais une nouvelle série de photos la semaine prochaine. Elle sera consacrée aux grottes Yungang, sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'humanité. Il y a des centaines de bouddhas sculptés dans les grottes, de très petit jusqu'à d'énormes statues. Les photos n'était pas autorisées pour les deux plus impressionants, mais il y a tout de même énormément de choses à montrer.

After we reached the top of this temple / monastery, we begin to go back by another way. We arrived by the lowest floors of the buildlings, we'll go back by the highest ones. There's this very narrow path, even too narrow for adults shoulders.
Après avoir atteint le sommet du temple / monastère, nous débutons le retour, mais par un autre chemin. Nous sommes venus par les rez-de-chaussée des différents bâtiments, nous rentrerons par les étages les plus élevés. Il y a cette voie très étroite, même trop étroites pour des épaules adultes.

Suspended between the earth and the sky, there's just lonely eagle missing in such large spaces. But I don't remind I saw any bird in those mountains.

Suspendu entre terre et ciel, il manque juste un aigle solitaire dans ces larges espaces. Mais je ne me souviens pas avoir vu d'oiseau dans ces montagnes.

I forgot this picture, yesterday. It was shot just before reaching the platform from where I shot yesterday's picture. I guess it's one of those pictures wich get some of my friend saying : "I'll never go there, I'm too afraid".

J'ai oublié cette photo, hier. Elle a été prise juste avant d'atteindre la plate-forme depuis laquelle j'ai pris la photo d'hier. Je suppose que c'est une de ces photos qui font dire à certaines de mes connaissances "Je n'irais jamais là-bas, j'ai trop peur".

This is the highest point of this temple, and the most difficult one to walk on, for who suffers from vertigo. The path is very narrow where I stand, and nothing higher than my knee separates me from falling down... 80 m. There and there are small holes welcoming small statues of Buddha, Confucius or Tao, all standing together.

Voici le point le plus élevé du temple, et le plus difficile à emprunter pour ceux qui souffrent de vertige. La voie est très étroite là où je me tiens, et rien de plus haut que mon genou ne me sépare des 80m de vide. Ca et là il y a de petites cavités dans lesquelles on trouve cote à cote des statues de Bouuddha, Confucius et Tao.

There's nothing special to say about this picture, except this the way people walk to get in the hanging temple. I first took just for its graphic style.

Here we just finished to climb the stairs, and are ready to enter the temple. It seems 90% of the visitors take the picture like this couple you can see on the picture.
