Italy - Rome - Palatine hill

Mar. 2012

From the colosseum, this is ot difficult walking to the Palatine hill. According to roman mythology, this is where Romulus and Remus were found by the she-worlf that kept them alive. When they were older, the boys killed their great-uncle (who seized the throne from their grandfather), and they both decided to build a new city of their own on the banks of the River Tiber. Suddenly, they had a violent argument with each other and in the end Romulus killed his twin brother Remus. This is how "Rome" got its name.
Of course, lot of roman ruins can be seen there, and we can do nothing but keeping on imagining how were things when the roman empire had reached the top of its prosperity.

  2. Rome is one of the cities I wrote the most about on our blog. WE also visited Palatine Hill but I prefer your pictures with the blossoms.

    Greetings,

  3. The blossoms immediately attracted my attention. I love your entire Rome series, but photos like this - which combine architecture and nature - are my favourites. What kind of tree is it? Surely not cherry?! ^^
