Italy - Murano

Mar. 2012

This island and its very few channels is not very interesting to visit. But if you want to do some shopping and go back home with some cute sculptures made of colored glass, then this is the place to go.

Italy - Venice _ another set of Christian buildlings

Mar. 2012

Here is some more venitian religious architecture. Forgive me for not knowing the names of each of these churches, but after some time spent in venice, you have seen so many that this is nearly impossible to remind wich one is wich one in wich narrow street you've walking. It was the same feeling in Roma, except that, instead of churches, those are basillicas. So here is some typical venitian/italian christian architecture.

China 2012 appetizers - Tianjin and Wutaishan

Before, as I said not so long ago, resuming posting pictures of the march trip to Italy and San Marino republic, here is an appetizer of what's coming about my current trip in China. In my mind, those two pictures sum up my main feeling about Tianjin, a very modern city and Wutaishan, a place with high buddhist spirituality but where, strangely, most of chinese people practice buddhism with the spirit of the individual supermarket modern consumption life, running, shouting rudely, fighting with others to enter first into this or that place. And sometimes, like this old man, some quietness coming from another time.

Back to Shanxi

For the third time I'm going to visit the Shanxi province. This time I'm supposed to spend two days at visiting Wutaishan, one of the 4 or 5 sacred buddhist mountains in China, listed as a world heritage. This mountain is the only place in China where tibetan and chinese buddhism stand together in one place. The third and last day of this short trip will see me visiting Taiyuan once more. I'll try to discover things I didn't visit the last time I went to this city.

China - Tianjin

I hadn't planed it. But here I am, visiting Tianjin for two days. This city is very modern and looks like we're in Europe. So far, I would say this is the most modern place I visited in China. I'll check its history more in details. Maybe it was widely destroyed during the world war. After having walked along the river, enjoying the sights of modern skycrappers, I'll try today to visit some temples, cathedrals and old more traditionnal things.

Fascinating lights

Most of us use to experience thunderstorms from the ground. Some unlucky ones (like me when I took off from mexico) finds themselves scared at flying into a thunderstorm and see their plane hit by a lightning. During my trip to reach China, somewhere above Russia, and for the first time ever I've been flying above a night thunderstorm.
Just imagine our plane was under the sky full of stars at night and about 500m above the clouds, so flat that one could mistake it with the ground. Almost everybody was sleeping, the engine's noise was quiet and regular.  There were no real lightning to see like when we're on he ground, but just a very violent light spreading within clouds, 2 or 3 kilometer large. As far as I could see, those lights were appearing and dissapearing very suddenly under us, so easy to see in the darkness of the night.
Probably only the ones who saw it by their eyes understand what I'm trying to describe, but it was truly fascinating. And when one of those lightnings started from just under the plane to go somewhere to the russian ground, we realise how small is a plane compared to the world and its nature.
