Finland - Helsinki 05 - Suomenlinna fortress

Next to the orthodox cathedral is the boat stop where we can go toe Suomenlinna fortress, world heritage. This is an inhabited sea fortress built on 6 islands. It was built by Sweden as a protection against Russia in 1748. Original plans were influenced by Vauban. The fortress surrended in 1808, and in 1809, Finland, dominated by Sweden, became a part of Russia.

Juste à coté de la cathédrale orthodoxe se trouve le bateau par lequel on peut rejoindre la fortresse maritime de Suomenlinna, patrimoine mondial de l'humanité. Il s'agit d'une forteresse inhabité édifiée sur un groupe de 6 îles, construite par la Suède en 1748 pour se protéger de l'expansionisme Russe. La forteresse fut prise par la Russie en 1808. En 1809, la Finlande passa du giron Suédois ou giron Russe.
