Datong city center

This is the current city center from Datong. Although there are 1.000.000 people living there, it still looks like the country side. Actually, a vey huge work is in progress to develop the city. The biggest I have ever seen, spread over 10 or 20 km².

Voici le centre ville actuel de Datong. Bien qu'il y ait 1.000.000 de personnes y vivant, ça ressemble à la campagne. En fait, un chantier gigantesque est en cours pour développer la ville, sur 10 ou 20 km².

I shot this from the taxi, when we were going to Datong city center after visiting the Yungang Grootoes. Chaotic!

J'ai filmé ça depuis le taxi qui nous emmenait au centre vile de Datong, après la visite des grottes de Yungang.

The suspended monastery : Xuankongsi

This wooden temple was built about 1500 years ago into a cliff, 75 m above the ground. The reason for it was to keep it protected from a river. This temple is a bit special since there, 3 religions are worshipped together : Taoism, Confucianism and Bouddhism.

Ce temple en bois a été construit il y a environ 1500 ans sur une falaise, 75 m au-dessus du sol. La raison était de le protéger d'une rivière. Ce temple est spécial dans la mesure ou 3 religions y sont pratiquées ensemble : Taoïsme, Confucianisme et bouddhisme.

Datong is a quite poor city from the Shanxi province. This 1.200.000 people city is ugly and dirty and the night train needed 6 or 7 hours to cover the 200 or 300 km that separates it from Beijing. The reason to go there was we wanted to visit the suspended monastery and the Yungang grottoes. The picture above shows the view from my bedroom in the hotel we used.

From tomorrow, I'll start showing picture from the suspended monastery, Xuangongsi, wich is amazing !

Datong est une ville plutôt pauvre de la province du Shanxi. Cette cité de 1.200.000 habitants est moche et sale et le train de nuit a besoin de 6 ou 7 heures pour en couvrir les 200 ou 300 km qui la sépare de Pekin. La raison pour y aller était que nous voulions visiter le monastère suspendu et les grottes de Yungang. La photo ci-dessus montre la vue que j'avais depuis ma chambre d'hotel.

A partir de demain, je commencerais à publier des photos de Xuankongsi, le temple suspendu qui est impressionant !
