I found this in Nara. If you look at it carefully, you'll see a bamboo growing on the tree.

Here is the torii I was talking about yesterday. Behind is the shrine where the ceremony was held. I didn't shoot any picture from the inside because I suddenly got caught by an amazing feeling of serenity in this quiet place and forgot everything else I had in mind at that time.

We were 3, seating in the shrine onto our knees, (seiza for the ones who know that word). I remind the priest facing the kamiza for some prayers, then doing something on our right, picking up a kind of stick with shiny metal pieces tied to it and finally "beating" softly our backs to get any evil or bad thing leaving our bodies and souls. It may be strange and coming from my mind, but I had dislocated my right shoulder 2 hours before getting in the plane to Japan, and after that ceremony a part of the pain dissapeared.

Voici le torii dont je parlais hier. Derrière se tient le temple dans lequel la cérémonie s'est déroulée. Je n'y ai pris aucune photo parce qu'un incroyable sentiment de bien être et de sérénité s'est emparé de moi en y entrant et tout ce que j'avais en tête a disparu à ce moment.

Nous étions 3, assis dans el temple sur nos egnoux (seiza pour ceux qui connaissent ce terme). Je me souviens du prêtre faisant face au kamiza pour quelques prières, puis faisant quelque chose sur notre droite avant de revenir avec un baton au boût duquel étaient attachées des pièces de métal dorées dont il s'est servi pour nous "frapper" doucement le dos, afin de chasser de nos corps et âmes toute mauvaise chose. C'est peut-être subjectif, mais je me souviens m'être déboité l'épaule droite 2 heures avant le décollage pour le Japon, et après la cérémonie une partie de la douleur avait disparu.

Arrived to the shrine. You can see some parts of the torii, behind the choyuza. Worshippers are supposed to wash their hands and mouth with its water before by taking some water with a water lade before cleaning its handle and entering the shrine.

Finalement arrivés au temple. Vous pouvez voir une partie du torii derrière le choyuza. Les croyants sont censés laver leurs mains, leur bouche avec de l'eau prelevée par une louche, puis d'en rincer le manche avant de pénétrer dans le temple.

In july 2004, just when arriving in Nara after a night without sleeping and 1 hour spent in the bus, I was brought to a shinto shrine by a friend's mum for a purification / welcoming ceremony. Still today I have no idea of where this was.

En Juillet 2004, à peine arrivé à Nara après une nuit passée sans dormir en avion et 1 heure passé en bus, je me suis fait emmener dans un temple shinto par la mère d'un ami pour une cérémonie de purification / bienvenue. Aujourd'hui encore je n'ai aucune idée de l'endroit où ceci était.

This picture was shot in Nara, the evening before I take the plane to Kyushu. Also the evening before a typhoon strikes the south of Japan. Japanese people are used to events such as a typhoon or an earthquake. I remind, sooner this day, walking in a garden while the wind was already vey strong, a huge piece of wook broke a fell 2 cm behind my feet. I just thought "2 cm and I could have died". Japanese saw it made a large smile, pointed at the sky and said "aaahhh taifu taifu" and kept on walking like nothing special ever happened.
Cette photo a été prise à Nara, le soir avant que je prenne un avion pour Kyushu. Egalement le soir avant qu'un typhon ne frappe le Japon. les japonais sont habitués à des évènements tels qu'un typhon ou un tremblement de terre; je me souviens que, plus tôt ce jour là, marchant dans un jardin alors que le vent était déjà fort, une branche énorme est tombée à 2 cm derrière mes pieds. J'ai just pensé "2 cm et je serais mort". Des japonais ont vu ça, on fait un grand sourire et ont montré le ciel en faisant "ahhhh tafu taifu" et on continué de marcher comme si rien de particulier n'avait eu lieu.

Before entering the shinto temple, you need to be pure. For this, just get some water from the fountain, wash your mouth, wash your hands, and wash the handle.

Avant de pénétrer dans un temple shinto, vous avez besoin d'être pur. Pour ceci, prenez de l'eau de la fontaine avec la louche, lavez-vous la bouche, lavez-vous les mains et finalement rincez le manche.

Some Nara green water

I hadn't posted any picture from Japan for a really long time so here is one. It seems that green water isn't only chinese. This one is from a pond at the entrence of Nara historical center. Just walk around, climb the stairs near the pagoda and you'll enter an amazing area.Je n'avais plus posté de photo du Japon depuis longtemps, donc en voici une. Il semble que l'eau verte ne soit pas que chinoise. En voici d'un petit étang situé à l'entrée du centre historique de Nara. Contentez-vous de marcher autour, de grimper les escaliers, et vous pénètrerez dans une zone incroyable.

Japanese red monkeys

This picture was shot somewhere in the old part of Nara, in Japan. All the strange red things represent monkeys. Once more I forgot their meaning. Probably supposed to protect from evil spirits or to bring some good luck.

Cette photo a été prise quelque part dans le vieux Nara, au Japon. Toutes ces chose rouges un peu étranges pendant du plafond représentent des singes. Une fois de plus : j'en ai oublié la signifcation. Probablement quelque chose comme la protection contre les mauvais esprits ou un symbole de bonne fortune.

It seems that blogspot or blogger blogs can't be accessed anymore from China since May, 14. Some people around the world probably posted some contents offending the chinese policy. Well, my blog doesn't have any political conctent in any way and respect the chinese policy. At least, I think so. China is one of the countries from where I used to receive a lot of visitors. Let's hope blogger will be allowed again soon... I can't even show it anymore to my future wife who lives in Beijing. She's chinese, and China means a lot to me. So I'm quite dissapointed.

Until then, here is a picture from Japan, showing a fox statue with a towel around the neck. I, sadly, forgot the meaning of this symbol. It was shot near the buddhist temple of Yakushiji, in Nara.

Il semble que blogspot/blogger ne soit plus accessible depuis la Chine depuis le 14 Mai dernier. J'imagine que certains internautes ont posté des choses ne respectant pas la loi chinoise. En tout cas, mon blog n'a rien de politique et respecte les lois chinoises. En tout cas, je le pense. La Chine est un des pays desquels je reçois / recevait le plus de visites. Espérons que blogger sera de nouveau autorisé bientôt... Je ne peux même plus le montrer à ma future épouse qui réside à Beijing. Elle est chinoise, et la Chine signifie beaucoup pour moi. Je suis donc assez déçu.

En attendant, voici la photo d'une statue de renard avec une serviette autour du cou. J'en ai malheureusement oublié la signification. C'a été pris près du temple bouddhiste de Yakushiji, à Nara.

Yes, this is a rice alcohol. Sake. I found this one before entering a japanese temple. I can't remind if it was a buddhist or shintoist one. Maybe the buddhist Yakushiji temple, in Nara, where Kitaro recorded a concert.

Oui, c'est un alcool de riz, du sake. J'ai trouvé celui-ci à l'entrée d'un temple japonais. je ne peux pas me souvenir si c'éait un temple bouddhiste ou shintoïste. Peut-être bien le temple bouddhiste Yakushiji à Nara dans lequel kitaro à enregistré un concert.

Deer in Japan

People visiting Nara, in Japan, for the first time will be surprised to see that deers live quietly in the old imperial area. The are sacred, and even sometimes disturb people driving their cars. Those two ones are quiet, but sometimes deers come and beg for food. They love biscuits aznd may hit you if you're too slow to feed them.

Les gens qui visitent Nara, au Japon, pour la première fois, risquent d'être surpris de voir des cerfs vivant tranquillement dans les rues de la zone impériale. Ils sont sacrés et dérangent même parfois le traffic. Ceux deux là sont calmes, mais de temps en temps les cerfs viennent quémander de la nourriture. Ils adorent les buiscuits et peuvent vous mettre un coup de corne si vous êtes trop long à les nourrir.

Buddha - Nara, Japan

Some japanese people claim this buddha to be the biggest in the world (or biggest original, or biggest wooden or biggest seated or biggest anything... I forgot).

Quelques japonais disent que ces bouddha est le lu plus gros de la planète (ou plus gros ancien, or blus gros en bois, ou plus gros assis ou plus gros n'importe quoi... j'ai oublié).
